All the Danged Vampires...

Alright, I'll admit it. I have a problem with vampire novels. But, Mrs. B., it's not what you think.

Sure, they're murderous blood-sucking leaches, mere quivering heartbeats away from ripping out a hero (or heroine's) throat, even if they are meant to be protagonists. Sure, they seem civilized for cold, dead corpses, but look, they're gonna eat you, just a matter of time. Sure, there's some ke-ray-zee themes from love, lust, companionship, mortality, immortality, and viral outbreak theories (and I'm not even touching zombies for the moment). Sure there are a helluva lot of books out there right now where they are ancillary to full on main characters and have little teenieboppers running screaming about which "team" they're on.

Alright, Mrs. B. It's been a while, but things haven't changed much in your Favorite Angle. I'm still the voracious omnivore I used to be. Remember when I used to take out the maximum number of books and return them all by the next day? I still do that. However, it takes me a heck of a lot longer to get through the pile of books than it used to. There are never enough hours in the day.

My White Whale: The Lightning Time

I suppose it's best to begin by talking about a book that means a lot to me. It means a lot to me for a lot of reasons, and I'll probably end up talking to you about this book often. It was one of my favorite books growing up, and yet it was this book that has given me the most grief.

Why you ask?

Well, I'll get there.

Dazed and Amused

Alright, so my plan had been to write to you a while back, Mrs. B. But, you know me, far too ambitious for my own good. I started reading four books all at once, just like I used to, and only just finished one of them last week. You were right -- being an adult means that work gets in the way of awesome things like reading all the books I can consume and writing crazy fiction. The book I've finished so far isn't a bad book (none of them are, just all varying genres and interests), and certainly one I have an interest in talking to you about, but something else had me tickled and I just wanted to pass on my amusement.
